I was directed to this song by Alt-J’s Facebook page, and given that Hundred Waters have previously toured with Alt-J, that should give you some indication of what to expect from this new track. Despite being signed to Skrillex’s label, the 5-piece make interesting and subtly brilliant music that I’m tempted to call avant-folk, but with added electronic elements. Down From the Rafters does bear some resemblance to Alt-J in that it captures fragile, ethereal vocals, subtly dark and twisted lyrics and experimental instrumentation, and weaves all the organic and synthetic sounds together into one beautiful web of noise. Take a listen and you too will probably fall under their spell.
